nothing quite like walking to your room and being greeted by this sign next to the door. at least the place was... secure? some things are best left unpondered. a.Cocoy Images on Flickr: Posted a Photo

so, when you walk into a motel bathroom to take a shower, you may find that you are occasionally stressed out to find that you just cannot for the life of you tell which towel to use as the bath mat, and which to use to dry yourself off, after your luxirious, spa-like bathing experience in a bathtub that fills as you shower, so as to more thoroughly cleanse your feet with dirty standing water. well, folks, then you haven't spent the night at the arrowhead! the fine staff at the arrowhead have gone ahead and taken the guesswork out of things completely, by conveniently sharpie-ing the bath mat accordingly. oh, and to make this picture even classier, i took it while sitting on the toilet. i know, right? capwell on Flickr: Posted a Photo
the loudest, scariest, most seemingly-ready-to-explode oil heating unit i have ever had the pleasure of sleeping a foot away from. capwell on Flickr: Posted a Photo
the creepiest piece of velvet motel art i have ever seen. notice, if you will, that the horses have gigantic, evil black eyes, complemented nicely by a mouth on one that implies a less-than-friendly relationship with the other. my assumption is that they chose a showdown at midnight out along some distant beach to settle things once and for all, and that this painting denotes the two mighty steeds, about to engage in an oceanic battle to the death... except that some previous guest has drawn unicorn horns on both of them with crayon. yeah, that sort of makes the whole scene a little less majestic, and a little too comical. capwell on Flickr: Posted a Photo
this was our terrifying motel in gallup. when every other motel costs more than the arrowhead's advertised rate of $29.95, you should take that as a warning. clearly, we did not. Animals7 on Flickr: Posted a Photo
